Cicadas start out below the ground. They are called nymphs and make mud chimneys on the ground. Then the nymphs go on a tree trunk or a plant to molt. This means that they shed their exoskeleton. The cicadas have orange wings and they have red eyes. In the spring, the cicadas fly around and sing. They live on leaves and tree trunks.
We made a KWL chart about cicadas.
